After a long hiatus from an internet presence, I’ve decided to relaunch the blog. However, this time, I wanted this to be on my own terms.
My first blog was launched on wordpress. It was a simple affair that I never spent too much time on. However, I’ve never got to truly know wordpress. I was endlessly frustrated by hosting, as well as the clunkiness of the UI/CMS. One could have done great things with it. That one wasn’t me though.
Then the second iteration migrated to Squarespace and became roughly similar to what you see today. I loved their design and the themes. However customisation became hard. When I wanted to move to a more photo-centric, I needed to change the theme. To change the theme, I needed to rebuild the entire thing from scratch. I’ve done this once, for a bit. But then I moved, and paying stuff in GBP became an issue. Additionally, Squarespace’s customer service became unreasonably useless in any and all things. Their final proposed solution for switching billing countries was to, you can probably guess, nuke the entire thing and copy-pasta all the post and content? At this point, I was sick of it, and was looking for another way.
I really, really liked Substack[1], but it didn’t feel personal enough. It didn’t feel mine. So I’ve started building. Merlin’s website was an inspiration for a long, long time, however, I didn’t feel too comfortable with Hugo. Additionally, I never found the gallery I liked, that worked as I imagined it would.
Enter Claude. The JavaScript gallery I worked on for months? Done in 20 minutes. Content posting from my obsidian notes via a tag? Done in a day or so. Honestly, this thing has been life-changing. Cursor and Claude in tandem are developers’ dream (and, I have a sense might just be their damnation, but that’s for another post).
And here it is. It’s not perfect. It’s not even done yet.
But it has all the features that I want. A microblogging that is replacing my twitter/instagram and can be accessible from the homepage. A longish form blog for more concrete thoughts.
And it is out there. People can see it. Read through it.
Photography will be updated, things will be cleaned up, optimized. Hopefully backfilled too. But for now, and for a little while, welcome. It’s great to have you here.
